How to style your hair with a Boar Bristle Brush

A truly elegant blow dry shouldn’t only be accessible to those with the time to visit their stylist. Learn how to style your hair with Christophe Robin, plus discover expert advice on the perfect products to achieve a red carpet-worthy blow dry from the comfort of your own home.

STEP 1 – Select the Right Tools

Begin your hair transformation by investing in the right tools for the task at hand. Discover a new world of gentle styling and silky smooth hair with the Christophe Robin hairbrushes. Handmade with Boar bristles, which are known to have a similar structure to hair and contain the same keratin compound, these carefully crafted tools ensure a gentle styling experience and a low risk of damage to the hair. Regular brushing helps distribute the natural oils from root to tip, protecting the hair fiber against harmful external factors.

STEP 2 – Wash Hair with a Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner

Begin your healthy hair routine when you wash, investing time here will help keep your hair in the best condition for blow drying. If you plan on heat styling your hair frequently then protect your strands with the Christophe Robin Regenerating Regime. Designed to nourish dry and damaged hair, this powerful, Prickly Pear Oil-rich routine will repair and regenerate tired hair.

STEP 3 – Apply a Heat Protectant

Prep hair by gently towel-drying, before smoothing the Christophe Robin Regenerating Serum with Prickly Pear Oil through the lengths and ends.  This silicone-free serum reduces split ends and frizz while protecting hair up to temperatures of 230°C/440F. For blow-drying we recommend applying to damp hair, before heat to avoid any damage.

STEP 4 – Avoid Brushing When Wet

Hair becomes heavier when it is wet, and therefore more fragile and prone to breakage. To avoid damage, try not to brush hair before it is partially dry. When you have applied your serum to damp hair, brush from your tips toward your roots. This gentle technique will protect your hair from breakage. Use the boar bristle Christophe Robin Detangling Brush, to gently detangle, smooth and style hair.

STEP 5 – Begin by Rough-Drying

Start by flipping your hair forward before you begin blow drying; this will give a little bit of extra volume and make it easier to remove any excess water before further styling. This technique is called rough-drying and will help to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy. Use your fingers for this step.

STEP 6 – Achieve Your Dream Blow Dry

Next, section your hair. Taking sections one by one, secure any excess hair with a clip and roll around a barrel brush, starting from your ends towards your roots. The size of your curls will depend on the size of the brush you use. The Christophe Robin Pre-Curved Blowdry Hairbrush with 12 Rows is perfect for bigger and looser curls, while the Pre-Curved Blowdry Brush with 10 Rows achieves smaller curls with ease. Blow dry vertically with your hairdryer on a medium heat setting, while ‘pointing down’ to avoid heat damage. Wait a few seconds for your hair to cool around the brush, then release. When all your hair is dry, flip it forwards and gently loosen to reveal your red carpet-worthy blow dry.

  • Regularly wash your hairbrush with a gentle shampoo to eliminate the residue from styling products and natural oils
